Do Something!

Have you ever stopped for a few minutes and realized how big the world really is??  I mean... we see different stuff all our lives... and someone can say they travel extensively... but we will really never make much of a dent in who we meet... or what we see.. There are 7 billion people in the world.. If we lived 75 years meeting people... we'd still have to meet over 250,000 people a day to meet everyone... and even then that doesn't take into account the billions of people who would be born and die.. it's just something to think about... how many people are actually out there... it's astronomical... and I'm not even counting aliens.. or people from other dimensions ...lol

I guess it's just a wake up call when you think about it... we think of ourselves as so important.. because we grew up being told how special we were...and we tell it to our kids... and our kids are special... to us... Everyone is unique... but the world was here before we got here.. and it'll be here after we are gone... the only thing we can do is try to make our mark and leave evidence that we were here.  I'm not really concerned that people may forget me... because I don't want to be a historical figure... but I feel a bit more fulfilled if I can make a difference in the lives of the people who come in contact with me.  There are times where I get tired.. and I want to take a break from making so much of a difference... and I can do that.. but it's part of who we are... we need to retreat from ourselves at times... I was in church last Sunday... and the pastor passed out little index cards and said... write this somewhere you can see it frequently when you wake up "My life is my light"  ...and he was referring to our life being an example to others of how we live... but it goes way beyond Christianity.. or even religion in general.... If you want others to exhibit behavior similar to yours.. you have to live to set an example... I haven't always done that for my kids... but that's all gone.. every day we have a choice to try to better ourselves.. and if we don't quite reach that mark today... then there's tomorrow... and the next day... etc... I talk about standards and how people need to be a certain way, but everyone needs to set their own standards... and stick with them... something they can be proud to say... "Hey! This is me!"  I'm not saying people don't make mistakes... but the trick is when we get off track... to get right back on the track and keep chugging along... Just because we decide to stop... doesn't mean the world stops and waits for us... It's a matter of keeping our perspective and doing our part to make our world a better place.. even if that's just by one act of random kindness... Yeah.. I stole that from the movie "Evan Almighty" ..but it makes so much sense... you're either part of the building... or part of the destruction of this planet.. or maybe you just use oxygen and take up space that could be occupied  by someone who actually makes an effort... Whether you know it or not.. you make some sort of difference, because you are a part of your environment.. and who knows when someone is actually watching who you are.. and what you do.. so... Do Something!
