Just Glad It's Over.

...another victim of incompetence... that's pretty much a norm for me.. I took my students out yesterday as I always do.... and bought them lunch at an all-you-can-eat buffet.. Chinese..  I took my debit card to the counter.. and ran it through... there was a ... "glitch".. so they ran it through again.. another "glitch".. so they ran it through again...  and again... finally it showed rejected... I didn't have enough cash on me to cover it... so I pulled out my backup card... it expired last month... yes.. that was my fault... so I took up a collection from the students.. but it still wasn't enough..  one of my students called a parent.. I had talked to this parent a few times... and been very helpful when she needed something.. so she offered to  pay and I could send the money through her daughter... I didn't want to do that.. but it was my only option... so.. using her card number.. it glitched again.. same as with mine.. I told them not to run it again.. but they did anyway... *glitch* ... I asked the parent to log in to her account online.. and check.. sure enough.. it was taking it out each time.. putting a pending status on it.. and reserving that money from the bank account.  I realized that's what it did with mine.. until it reserved my entire balance... I gave them what money I could scrap up.. my phone number.. and told them I would settle up with them this weekend.. when I could get to my bank to see what was happening.. they were insistent that only one charge would go through.. but that's another story to be blogged about when it does happen.. I'm sure.    In any case... I will check with this parent to see if the money was indeed taken from the account.. then see how much was taken from my account.... and if I owe money still because nothing was taken.. I'll pay it.. if they owe me back several hundred dollars ... I'm going to collect it.   So because of this little mishap.. we were about 10 minutes late arriving for food commodities distribution.. and some were trying to carry out their own boxes... my students bailed.. and all sorta leveled out after that... it was hot.. and a tiring afternoon.. just glad it's over.
